Chris Redmond Ford Paintings

Biography

Chris Redmond Ford’s paintings address the relationship between experience and existence. She works in acrylic, charcoal, gouache, pastel, chalk, and pencil, primarily on canvas and occasionally on paper.

Ford is a psychotherapist and philosopher, with a background in Existential Phenomenology. The phenomenological perspective emphasizes felt lived experience rather than analytical thought. It is this focus on inwardness and existence that guides her work in her therapy practice and in her painting.

Time is a felt element in her work. She is intrigued by the way a painting can seem completed one day and then ask for partial or total erasure the next. When does a painting land in itself in a way that it speaks its own existence? The dialectic between the painter and the unfolding of the painting is a continuing conversation that intrigues her. Ford grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. She now lives in New York City and Fishkill, New York.
